Coastal Roots Farm – a nonprofit Jewish community farm and education center in Encinitas – is launching a gardening workshop series, to teach the community about the best practices and methods for growing organic produce from home. Oct. 24: How to Build a Raised Bed; discover how to easily build a raised bed, best irrigation practices, and types of soils for a home garden. • Oct. 31: Gardening for Beginners; learn how to read a seed packet, explore the differences between transplanting and direct seeding, seasonal planting basics, pests, and diseases. • Nov. 14: Advanced Gardening; understand which regenerative practices help build soil nutrients and fertility, discuss, and explore pest related diseases and issues. • Nov. 21: The How’s and Why’s of Compost; learn how to build a compost pile, which materials can and can’t be added, how to maintain your own compost, and more.
